Midwifery, LactatioN + Infant Bodywork

Milk thistle puts down roots where other plants cannot, marked by veins associated with milk and thorns built for protection. Parenthood asks something similar of us—demanding both the soft work of attachment and the fierce work of becoming.

Milk and thorns both belong in this journey. Nourishment and protection. Tenderness and strength

As a provider, I honor the whole story of your perinatal transition, supporting parents and babies as they adapt, connect, and grow together.

Milk thistle is a plant of resilience. It grows in challenging places, putting down roots where other plants cannot. Its leaves are marked with white veins that have long been associated with milk and nourishment, while its thorns offer protection and strength.

I chose the name Milk Thistle because the journey into parenthood asks something similar of us. Pregnancy, birth, feeding, and the postpartum transition are often portrayed as natural and effortless, but they can also be demanding, vulnerable, and transformative. Becoming a parent requires courage. It asks us to grow into a new identity while caring for a new life.

As a provider, I am interested in the whole story of that transition. Not only whether feeding is working or symptoms are improving, but how parents and babies adapt, connect, and grow together. The postpartum period is rarely a straight path. It unfolds slowly through change, uncertainty, learning, and resilience.

Milk and thorns both belong in that journey. Nourishment and protection. Tenderness and strength. The soft work of attachment and the fierce work of becoming. Like the milk thistle, parents and babies grow together through all of it.
